Happy Holidays!

Hey everyone -

Just a quick note before we finish up the year and take some vacation time...we just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to all our fans, friends, and colleagues for supporting us through 2012. We had such an awesome year, and we couldn't have reached as many students and communities without your support.

Happy holidays, and we'll see you in 2013!

Cheers!

Update, post-residencies!

Hi everyone!

It's been a while since we've blogged - we've been out on the road performing and teaching a ton this past month.

During October, we performed 8 concerts and gave over 60 classroom showcases to students from kindergarten through high schoolers while on multi-day educational residencies in the Minnesota communities of Hastings, Karlstad, Nevis, Harmony, and Hinckley, and also Underwood, ND.

We've had a great time meeting community members at our night performances, and we have taught so many great students - from performing K-4 lyceums in packed gymnasiums, to performing with high school and middle school bands, to rehearsing with entire band programs, to advanced brass masterclasses focusing on technique and sound.

Check our calendar for updates - we've got a ton of gigs in the Twin Cities metro in Nov/Dec, so we hope to see you at an upcoming show!

9/17/12 Update!

Hey everyone,
Just a quick post to let you know what we've been up to lately. Our 12-13 season is underway and we're in full-swing! Rehearsals for our upcoming shows have been going well, and we've got a ton of new music for our concerts - a new Piazzolla tango, a couple arrangements of Adele tunes, and a really nice folk tune by Edgar Meyer. Of course, a good mix of our favorites are still on the shows - Blue Rondo a la Turk, The Best of Queen, and Ben Folds' Fred Jones part 2.

This Thursday we'll be down in Hastings, MN performing all day for the high school and middle school band classes. We'll also be giving masterclasses throughout the day - we're excited to be performing some of the first educational shows of the season down in Hastings!

Other exciting news: Allison and Tim will be presenting a seminar called "Signing on the Dotted Line: Entrepreneurship in the Arts" during the morning of the September 29th Making It In The Arts conference at St. Olaf College. They'll also be hosting break-out sessions, as well as leading an "ask-the-artist" session on musical entrepreneurship in the afternoon. More info is here: http://miita.org/.

If you haven't yet, check out our upcoming CD RELEASE EVENTS:

CD Release Recital: October 2 - Antonello Hall, MacPhail Center for Music - Doors 6:30pm, Music 7pm

CD Release Concert & Party: October 4 - Bryant-Lake Bowl - Doors 6pm, Music 7pm

Hope everyone is having a great start to their fall!

Hi friends!

News time-

1.  Thanks to everyone who came out to the fair last week in the rain!  Somehow we've managed to make it through 3 years (7 shows) at the fair without even the thought of rain, so it was bound to happen.  Everyone in the crowd was lookin' fly in their ponchos and umbrellas :)

2.  Our CD is here!  I'm planning some big announcements via email, etc but we've just been so darn busy!  You can grab your very own copy on our web store here.  It will be up on iTunes and other download sites soon...that seems to be taking a while but the process is rolling.

3. Quick rundown of upcoming events:  our last gig of the season at the fair is on Sunday from 2-3 @ the MPR Stage on the corner of Judson and Nelson.  We'll also be performing for the first time at the Concrete and Grass Festival in Lowertown, St. Paul on Sept 8th.  More details here.

4.  We're spending a lot of time this month getting our tour show ready for October concerts and ramping up for the two CD release events in October.  I'll be rolling out some marketing stuff for those shows soon.  You can grab your tickets to the MacPhail show at a discount from our ticket store here, and tix for the Oct 4th show at Bryant Lake Bowl are available from them here.

That's it for now!  Cheers! AH

What a busy summer!

Hey everyone!

If you've been wondering where we've been lately you have good reason...we've been away from the blog and Facebook for quite a while.  We have some really cool stuff coming up, so I wanted to give you an update on what we've been up to.

All of our work for our new classical CD is nearly finished!  We began tracking (recording) in February, did all the editing and mastering this summer, created the packaging a few weeks ago, and finally tomorrow afternoon we will pick up the CDs from Noiseland, our manufacturer.  This was a really big project for us, but a fun one as well.  We will be rolling our our new discs for the first time at our MN state fair performances on 8/25 and 9/2 and have two CD release events happening in October to celebrate in style!

Save the date for October 2nd and 4th - our two CD release events.  The first is a more formal concert at MacPhail in downtown Minneapolis, and the gig on the 4th is a concert/party at Bryant Lake Bowl in Minneapolis.  Both shows start at 7:00 p.m., check our calendar for more info and to buy tickets.  See you there!

We just got back yesterday from our annual retreat in Wisconsin - more on that later - and we're really excited about several new tunes for our tour show this year!  After some much needed vacation time this summer we're happy to be back at it and ready to kick off our season at the fair on Saturday!

There will be more info to come, so stay tuned and thanks for reading!

We’ve also created some special discounts on the Kickstarter pledge gifts to say thank you for supporting our project!

Here’s a link for the CD pre-order (hard copy of the disc, not a digital download).  For our Kickstarter backers and blog readers, we’re offering the CD Pre-order for $12 instead of $15 (plus shipping).

Kickstarter: 5 Days To Go!

To our devoted readers:

We have only FIVE days left to fulfill our goal on Kickstarter! While many might be fearful or filled with doubt, we are confident that with your help, we can get the word out on our project and get the big money supporters on board with our group's mission. The larger ticket rewards serve as true acts of philanthropy, offering band programs and the students involved a special opportunity to work with a professional brass ensemble in their own classroom.

The following is a very special thanks to the wonderful individuals who are helping us through this campaign. We hope that you all can go above and beyond your pledge and spread the word about our campaign via your social media outlets and at those crazy parties you all attend! Big thanks to the following:

Anna Kiel Martin
Winston
David & Fay Smith
Shelly Kellogg
Amanda Kaus
Ben Blotsky

OK, now for more editing and mixing. Let's make this happen!

word.

We'd like to pose a challenge to each of our current pledgers: WE BET YOU CAN'T TELL 3 OF YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT OUR KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN!

If all of our amazing "backers" got the word out to three of their friends, we'd have 111 more possible pledges to our campaign! So, please share our Kickstarter web page to all of your friends via Facebook, Twitter, and those blogs you're dedicated to updating daily! (Um, yeah, we're not so great at that either.)

Finally, we would like to say a simple thanks to all of you who have both donated and shared our project with others. We only have 10 days left and still have hope this project will launch. If we all work together, we won't need a miracle!

Happy Wednesday!

We're currently spending long hours in the office mixing the album and eating bad takeout/delivery food. We can't wait to get this project polished and perfected to send out to all who've graciously earned rewards!

Cheers!

New CD is underway - and we need YOUR help!

Hi everyone!! We’re launching our Kickstarter campaign today! Please visit OUR KICKSTARTER PAGE to check out our fundraising plan to record and produce our NEW Classical album. Donating at any level is greatly appreciated! Also, there are other ways you can help outside of pledging. You can join our efforts by “Like”-ing our video (found at the bottom-left of the video), which shares our project on your Facebook page. You can also share our project via your Twitter account by simply clicking on the “Twitter” link (found directly below the video).

The rewards for pledging range from online recognition (for when you Google yourself!) to the new Classical album, as well as other merchandise (other CDs and TSHIRTS!), and even funding larger educational opportunities for local MN band programs! One of the rewards allows you to sit back while we package and ship your Holiday gifts come December!

If you have any questions, please send us a quick note. We would be happy to talk to you about the project and discuss in detail about the rewards. We’re really excited about this new project and hopeful in joining forces with Kickstarter to raise funds for this project! As always, we appreciate any/all feedback (especially the video!).

Our next CD project is underway!

Hey everyone!

Sorry we've been gone from our blog for a while!  This winter (spring in MN??) has been a very busy one for us!  Since last time we've performed on the HAUMC Concert series and travelled to both the Wabasha and Westbrook schools for residencies.  We're also knee-deep in grant writing season, so our spell-checkers have been working overtime lately :)

I wanted to report that our first studio date at Wild Sound was awesome!  We're recording for our next CD, a recording of our own classical transcriptions and arrangements.  Highlights include Brahms' Haydn Variations (yep all of it) for quintet, some Debussy and Schumann piano works, and a loud and crazy awesome transcription of Wagner's Prelude to "Die Meistersinger".  We'll probably put up some pre-master tracks for you to check out later this spring, but first we'll finish recording it!  Stay tuned, and be sure to sign up on our mailing list if you want to receive email updates about our concerts and when our CD is available for purchase!

Later!

Happy New Year!

We're wishing everyone a happy new year! Thanks to all our friends, fans, and family for an amazing 2011. We are truly blessed to have such great support for our concert and educational endeavors - it's from this support that 2011 was our best year yet. We can't wait for what 2012 has in store for us and we're so glad the CSBQ train is rockin and rollin. We hope to catch you at a show this year - and come up and say hi to us!

This month: a residency in Wabasha, MN, getting some grants out the door, playing a few church gigs, and performing on the "Music at Hennepin" concert series on Jan 29.

The rest of the spring has a ton of shows, run-outs, residencies, and educational shows (and we're going back into the studio to record our 4th CD!) so STAY TUNED for all that and more!

Love,
The CSBQ
